The Real Wealth of Nations

Creating a Caring Economics

by Riane Eisler

  • Reviewed by The Editors on June 1, 2007

As we might expect from someone with the intellectual rigor and compassionate depth of Eisler, this is not just another book about changing our dysfunctional economic system. Taking literally the meaning of economics as serving “the material welfare of humankind,” Eisler begins by challenging the rules and assumptions that drive the current dominator model of control and manipulation. She then makes a radical case—at least for traditional theorists—that a true economics should be built on a partnership structure of relationships and decision making that values such things as caregiving, gender equity, family-friendly policies, and local community building.Extensive endnotes and a rich bibliography provide
    plenty of additional resources.
