"Workplace Mojo" with Chip Conley (sample)
Visionary: Chip Conley
Joie de Vivre Hospitality founder-CEO Chip Conley discusses Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs with host Marilyn Schlitz, and how he has applied this in his business. Chip identifies Maslow’s five levels of need -- physiological, safety, social belonging, esteem, and self-actualization -- and how he combined the first two levels as survival needs, the third and fourth as success needs, and the top level as a transformational need. He applied these three levels of need to his customers, employees, and investors and moved his employees through a process of having a job to having a career or a calling. His 40 hotels have less than one-third the amount of turnover than the industry average. They also discuss the content of Chip's book, Peak: How Great Companies Get Their Mojo from Maslow.
