This summer, particle physicists have finally discovered what they believe to be the Higgs Boson. This elusive particle that has been sought for the past half century is one way in which scientists believe the mass of elementary particles can be explained. In this presentation, Dr. Roser will give an overview of particle physics and the Higgs Boson--how one looks for it and ultimately finds it. Discussion will include what does this discovery mean both scientifically as well as in our every day lives...
Rob Roser has led the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF), the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Ill, and recently became head of the Scientific Computing Division of Fermilab.
