About Our Speaker
Mitch Schultz began his life journey in Memphis, TN, and has since called Texas, Minnesota, Colorado and New York City home. From an early age, his love of art, music, mythology, and anything curiously unusual, fueled his path, including collaboration with Ghost Robot, Synthetic Pictures and the development of Spectral Alchemy, a hybrid-collective for transmedia production, culture architecture and think tank. His education includes a BS in Radio-Television-Film from the University of Texas at Austin and an MFA from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
About Our Subject
As our spiritual and societal institutions collapse, we seek answers to questions that beckon our immediate attention. Yet, our utopian-hyper-speed-technological-evolution continues to impart new relationships to our planetary myths, and simultaneously bringing us back to a simpler way of being. How do we rectify this quandary? By opening up a dialogue about humanity’s link to consciousness, nature, and language, we can re-interpret humanity’s narratives to create novel and deeply layered allegories that reclaim our exploited myths. Explore open source reality, language.
Language governs all facets of life, but embodies more than the written and spoken. It manifests through the conscious and unconscious mind, represented as numbers, played as music, coded as digital computer languages that construct alternate realities/personas, and much, much more. So, how do we shed light on some of the inadequacies inherent in our current consciousness model and provide alternates? Considering our consciousness exists on the very edge of this technological evolution, similar to our ancient ancestors that discovered, and then harnessed fire, how do we harness the current transformation of human consciousness by utilizing our modern-primitive paintbrushes to create new representations of the unexplainable? One that is less passive and more interactive. Let’s revisit our digital cave wall to share our personal mythology with the global community. Re-code the matrix through our active participation by questioning reality. How, what and why is it happening? Not to establish truths, but designed to encourage shifts in perspective and enhance our collective ability to communicate with the Universe.
Assuming that plants seeded human consciousness, giving us meaning and language, how do return to a simpler and more respectful approach to our interaction with them. How do we use this symbiotic relationship to navigate our technological advances through a positive model? By creating an open source approach to the world’s sacred traditions and esoteric knowledge we can design a meta-myth, but we need platforms outside the linear story, it evolves/influences systemic change through transmedia. As we look back at our ancestors early attempts to represent the symbiosis of the quantum, physical and spiritual realms, our pinhole reality tunnel widens, and new dimensions unfold around us at all times. We can harness the evolving technology to map the bio-information superhighway and uncover new forms of consciousness. But how do we measure, and signify, the visual, auditory, dimensional and emotional aspects of this mindscape? What is it? How does it affect identity, perception, and ultimately response?
The Internet’s interactive architecture embodies the perfect model for an open source mythology. As the consciousness narrative template, it consists of content communities, social networks, blogs, collaborative projects, education, eZines, metadata tags, and aggregation of API information into data visualizations. It connects mobile apps, websites, gaming consoles, and physical environments. Interactive design magnifies the cross-referenced collection of knowledge narratives that reveals and evolves our global mythology. Let’s become spiritual alchemist, be curious, ask questions, re-write the rules before you know them, trust your instincts, and play with the malleable world. Allow mysticism, wisdom, and practicality to exist in harmony.
