The SSP West Coast Regional Retreat welcomes SSP members and nonmembers with shamanic journey skills to a weekend of ceremony, journey, and prayer with a focus on Shamanism Without Borders. Our intention will be to deepen our sense of community with each other, as well as with all beings, through the practice known in the Mayan language as en lak’ech – oneness. Our program will be dedicated to experiencing and utilizing the powers and beauty of this state (that of oneness) to heal. As a regional rather than national gathering, we anticipate the advantage of greater personal engagement of participants than has been possible in the past. We look forward to actualizing SSP’s commitment to Shamanism Without Borders through the union and dedication of our West Coast region shamanic practitioners – “shamans without edges," as One, healing through being.
Carol Proudfoot-Edgar, CSC, has been studying and teaching shamanism for 20 years; prior to that she was a Psychologist at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Twelve years ago she helped found the nonprofit organization, Shamanic Circles. She has worked with a group of women physicians for 11 years to integrate shamanism and contemporary medical practice. Carol continues her work with a Clan of BearWomen that came into formal existence 16 years ago, and she has been teaching in the University of San Francisco Medical School's Integrative Medical Program.
Paula Denham, CSC, has been practicing shamanism for 21 years in Northern California. She has an active healing and counseling practice, teaches shamanism both locally and nationally, and has fostered a growing shamanic community in the Sacramento area.
