IONS would like to celebrate the long life of a remarkable man who contributed to IONS as a Life Director and as an inspiration to many around the globe.

Tamas Makray passed away peacefully on January 9th in São Paulo, Brazil at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife Margaret, his 2 sons, 6 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.

Tamas lived an incredible life and led with empathy. As a student, he was humbled by the intense struggles of an older coworker who had been cut loose by their company and left without any support. This experience drove him to pursue business models that focused on supporting community and giving employees a greater work/life balance. It was this commitment to an issue that remains a growing concern today that shows the kind of visionary leader he was. He would later go on to spend 10 years studying consciousness at the Willis Harman House and later serve on IONS Board of Directors.

Tamas made a profound impact on the people in his life. His granddaughter, Valentine, describes him as a kind-hearted man who believed in human potentiality, creativity, and ingenuity. He revered Nature and the mysteries of consciousness with all his being. IONS Board member Harriet Crosby fondly remembers him and said “Tamas was a wonderful man and such a good, gentle, wise, thoughtful member of our board of directors.”

Tamas’s wisdom, integrity, and vision have impacted the world around him greatly, and will certainly live forward in those whose lives he touched. He will be greatly missed.
