Alan Pierce spent one year with IONS as a research intern working on a variety of long-term and short-term projects. He is now on staff working closely with our research team and also supports various aspects of our educational programs.
With an academic background in comparative religion, Alan's interest in the science of consciousness emerged while he was an undergraduate at UC Santa Barbara and was exposed to research on Tibetan monks and the profound physiological and psychological effects of deep meditative states.
Before joining IONS he worked as a writer and a teacher, and also spent time traveling and volunteering in South America. Alan has plans to complete his academic training with a joint Phd in Anthropology and Cognitive Science.
