FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INSTITUTE OF NOETIC SCIENCES NAMES CLAIRE LACHANCE CEO

PETALUMA – October 13, 2016 – The Board of Directors of the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) today announced the appointment of Claire Lachance to Chief Executive Officer. Previously Board Chair at IONS, in this new position Lachance will devote her focus to advancing the strategic vision and long term sustainability of IONS.

“With over 17 years of high-level nonprofit and foundation consulting, strong organizational management and development skills as well as having served on multiple nonprofit boards, Claire is poised as our new CEO to capitalize on IONS’ solid foundation and lead the way for its promising future,” said Dr. Mica Estrada, Chair of the Board at IONS and faculty member at University of California at San Francisco.  “We are grateful for the leadership that preceded our new team, which greatly contributed to our growth, and we look forward to integrating Claire’s impressive business background, with the end goal of continuing to make scientific discoveries about the nature of consciousness and human capacities that expand all of our conceptions of what is possible.”

Cassandra Vieten, PhD, will remain President of IONS, and with her extensive scientific background, continue to support the organization’s mission, engaging in science and thought leadership as well as spearheading major initiatives and strategic partnerships.  “I’m thrilled that as IONS becomes more robust, we are able to expand our business leadership so that I can direct my full attention toward building on IONS’ legacy to advance our mission and future,” said Vieten.

After 43 years, IONS continues to inspire individuals through its scientific research and experiential opportunities, focused on investigating the power of consciousness and expanding human potential, reaching approximately 5,000 people annually through EarthRise (IONS’ retreat center) and 75,000 worldwide through community groups, conferences, online communities and educational programming. This new leadership structure is an example of IONS’ ability to capitalize on the individualized strengths of its leaders, also demonstrating its capacity to continue to grow and break new scientific ground.

“The opportunity to lead IONS is extremely exciting,” said Lachance.  “I am personally inspired by the work of IONS and its many advancements linked to research on the nature of consciousness and its role in the physical world. In working closely with our exceptional scientists and leadership team, I look forward to helping IONS realize its highest potential.”

Prior to joining IONS, Lachance was founder and president of Inspiration Quest where she delivered comprehensive management consulting, facilitation, training and coaching services to hundreds of organizations, social entrepreneurs and independent professionals.  Prior to the launch of her consulting business, Lachance held several leadership positions of increasing responsibility at Pacific Bell and MetLife.  She earned a MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Tufts University.

About IONS

Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell, the sixth man to walk on the moon, founded IONS in 1973 after experiencing what he described as a "samadhi" moment -- a profound sense of universal connectedness -- on his return trip from the moon. His mission for the Institute was to “broaden our knowledge of the nature and potentials of mind and consciousness and to apply that knowledge to the enhancement of human well-being and the quality of life on the planet."  Mitchell sadly passed away this past February. His major advancements in the exploration of consciousness as well as his everlasting support of IONS will be long remembered.

IONS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization engaged in scientific and scholarly research on the nature of consciousness and its role in the physical world.  For more information about IONS, its programs and ongoing research, visit http://www.noetic.org.
